Anoop Singh Bishnoi on Reimagining Education

Anoop Singh Bishnoi is an entrepreneur and promoter of the alcohol and steel industries.

An alumnus of The Doon School, Dehradun, he completed his baccalaureate in Economics at St Stephen's College, Delhi; thereafter he earned his MBA degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India in 1981 and since then has been working on and building various enterprises. With a background in educational, corporate/commercial, and sustainable design, he’s passionate about building organizations with strong values and providing opportunities for personal development to all.

Besides being part of industries with expanding footprints (Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh) Anoop Singh Bishnoi also manages a 200-acre family farm in Punjab and a 35-acre farm in Haryana with modern technological practices and is in the process of setting up Agro-Processing Units/Food Parks at both these places.

Passionate about entrepreneurship and impact assessment in education, health, and gender, he is consistently working with several foundations and NGOs for the upliftment of the less-privileged sections, especially children.

Anoop Singh Bishnoi feels most passionately about reforming the public education system in India, He has served as a member of the Board of Governors at IIT, Kanpur and at present holds the same position at his alma mater, The Doon School. He’s also the Chairman at JDS School and Friends of Round Square (now Forum of Regional Schools). As someone who believes in educational equity, he strongly asserts that every child should get the opportunity to realize their full potential, irrespective of their family’s socio-economic background.

With a vision to revamp the education system and make it more utilitarian, he’s working on ideas to enhance essential skills in our students from an early age, so they can adapt to the myriad skill sets that tomorrow’s jobs will need. To turn his plans into reality, he’s working on some projects in his ancestral place. At present, the family foundation is in the process of setting up colleges, a school, and a skill development center in Dist. Fazilka, Punjab.

It would be interesting to see the impact of his initiatives on his entrepreneurial journey and his passion –it’s all going to be about a stronger shoulder, not a lighter load!
