Anoop Singh Bishnoi on Power of Education

The serial entrepreneur Anoop Singh Bishnoi dearly believes in the cause of literacy and education and has dedicated decades of his life to helping charitable causes… what truly inspired him, and how is he keeping up with his initiatives?

Recalling his childhood days, he shares, “Growing up in a household where all staff members were considered family, we never felt any difference of intellect and capability. We used to play and watch TV and movies together but it was only when I asked my parents about why the staff kids go to different schools, my embarrassed mother explained to me about unequal income backgrounds and the resultant vast dissimilarity in opportunities and accessibilities existing in our world...”

Basic education is every individual's right but not everyone is granted the same livelihoods at birth and if you got a chance to attain a quality education then consider yourself fortunate. Anoop Bishnoi's experience in recognizing the power of education came at a young age and it kept circling back until it became a passion - a passion for harnessing educational benefits for students of any background.

Describing his school days and undergraduate career, he adds, “While studying at The Doon School (an all-boarding), even though we never knew the "background" of any of our fellow students, it was evident that the school had only outreach to a minuscule (more-privileged) few and possibilities of the less-privileged joining school was extremely rare...but while doing my Baccalaureate at St Stephens in Delhi, I was happy to know that the college encouraged students from all backgrounds and would waive fees in very deserving cases.”

Leadership is a responsibility and as Anoop Bishnoi matured in his career and life, he nurtured within him an endeavor to work towards the future of education – the most powerful weapon against inequality and the strongest asset to improving lives. Not only did his family fuel his passion but with their mutual support, he has set up an all-girls school in rural Punjab as well as joined hands with several such foundations which are working for making education more accessible for all.

From being inspired to inspiring others, indeed most unexpected moments can sometimes become life-changing and for Anoop, things were made to happen for the good.
