The Power of Education in Nation Building
In essence, a nation is based on its
people, therefore their contributions and duties to their country are what
propel a country’s prosperous future, and this responsibility is primarily in
the hands of today’s youth. The best approach to developing a shared identity
for everyone and a common road map for everyone to follow, a primary thread
that unites communities in a country, is thus for our children to have a good
education. Emphasizing the same, Anoop Singh Bishnoi, Chairman of The Doon
School, Dehradun, adds, “A strong educational system shapes a child’s thinking
towards progress, nationalism, and social advancement. Children must be given
the freedom to reason, evaluate, discuss, react, and draw their own
conclusions.”
The country has made significant
advancements in science, technology, education, infrastructure, and economic
development. The government is making every effort to position India as a top
location for investment across a range of sectors, including infrastructure,
digital technology, banking, and biotechnology. It makes perfect sense that a
strong educational system operates concurrently to offer a highly skilled,
talented, and dedicated pool of trained professionals in order to maintain this
pace. There is no moment more appropriate than the present to adopt a balanced
perspective on India in general and its educational system in particular.
The foundation of the Indian educational
system is based on the idea that if something is beneficial to one child, it
would likely also be beneficial to others. This prevailing ideology must change,
and more open-book yet creative instruction must begin. This is because
different people learn in different ways, such as visually, auditorily, and
experimentally. As a result, the educational system should accommodate all
types of learners. “There should be relevant practical training sessions. In
order to recognize creativity, originality, and problem-solving abilities, our
testing and marking system needs to be redesigned. All students need to be
given a clear path to follow when they look into possible careers in their
field of study,” says Anoop Singh Bishnoi.
“We must develop a system that is not designed to program a child’s mindset. While children must be educated, they must also have the freedom to educate themselves\,” says Anoop. “Education is to a nation, what intellect is to a human body. A man with a positive outlook will strategically achieve great success. Similar to this, it requires the efforts of educated citizens to provide sufficient and qualified manpower for national development, create a civil society, foster social and group relationships, increase democratic participation, foster the culture of productivity, and enhance human values” he adds. Any knowledge acquired in schools or other learning environments should be applied to improve self and society; otherwise, the certificates and grade cards are nothing but a white elephant.
